Motorists are being reminded they need to be "winter ready' right now. Winter tire rules go into effect in BC as of tomorrow, October 1st. You need to have winter tires mounted on your vehicles if you plan to travel on highways at higher altitudes where you will encounter snow and ice. Those tires must have a Mountain Snowflake or Mud and Snow symbol on them and must have a minimum tread depth of 3.5 mm. Fines for not having snow tires are $121 and for improper tread depth $109.
