Greater Vernon Cultural Plan Closer to Completion

The Greater Vernon Advisory Council continues to work on development of a Cultural Plan to cover the entire community. The group has decided on general guidelines for investing in cultural facilities in future. Chair Juliette Cunningham says it will apply to any new, repurposed or expanded facilities. "Any new spaces should be flexible and adaptable and we are looking for them to be multi-purpose with a partnership approach that's what we heard from the steering committee, from the arts community, they wanted that type of approach." Cunningham says the cultural community needs some ground rules. "We're trying to get a plan that will be adopted by the politicians so that as we move forward there is some predictability and its clear what the expectations are before groups come to us. Cunningham says they also want to develop a Cultural Advisory Committee from the arts community to provide input and advice to the Board. "This would be a committee that would report to us. The idea was actually that we would have an opportunity for them to grade us on where we're at once we adopt this plan and once we start to implement the plan." GVAC also decided at least ten per cent of any cost of any cultural project must come from other sources rather than just the Regional District.
