Frozen Food Recall

You may want to check what's in your freezer due to one of the largest food recalls in recent memory. It involves millions of packages, and more than 400 products, of frozen fruits and vegetables shipped to stores in the U.S., Canada and Mexico from CRF Frozen Foods in Pasco, Washington. The products were sold under more than 40 different brand names at major retailers like Costco and Safeway.

"We are performing this voluntary recall in cooperation with the Food and Drug Administration and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) because these products have the potential to be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes," says a release on the US Food and Drug Administraiton website. "The organism can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Although healthy individuals may suffer only short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain, and diarrhea, Listeria infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women." Reports say eight people have been sickened by Listeria which could be linked to CRF vegetables, and two have died, though Listeria wasn't the primary cause of death. Some of the products date back to May 2014.
