Outback Marina A Year Away

Posted on 5/3/2016 6:00 AM by Ron Manz 107.5 KISSFM
It is looking like it will be another year before a proposed marina in Okanagan Lake at the Outback Resort is constructed. Currently, a Vancouver engineering firm is conducting environmental and water quality studies required by the Province before approval for the project will be given. Sid Hanson, the chair of the marina committee, says they are following the book to ensure everything is done properly to ensure the marina gets the green light. "Part of this process is also wind and wave studies and modelling those. We are doing everything to minimize the impact and the detailed study and modelling will help everybody to understand what all of this means." Hanson says despite the delay the residents are paying to make sure things are done right and by the book. "We are having to invest very large risk dollars just to do the studies. Instead of being frustrated people are investing more risk up front dollars to pay for the modelling and engineering so that we are meeting standards and are doing things properly." Hanson, the chair of the marina committee, says they will likely take several months to complete, so construction isn't expected to begin until 2017.. "We have supported maintaining the natural environment around there to the nth degree. We all know we aren't having a marina right now. We are just pleased that we are able to be continuing down the path and doing things properly." Initial plans called for a 72-slip marina...but the committee is now looking more seriously at a scaled down 65-slip design.
