Ranch Tries To Head-Off Funding Cut

The O'Keefe Ranch has made its case to maintain the funding its gets from the City of Vernon. General Manager Glen Taylor says proposed cuts to start next year, could slow down the building upgrades and visitor growth they've seen, the last few years. "We're here to ask Vernon city council to go back and look at the decisions made in 2013 about the funding cuts," said Taylor Back in 2013, council decided to start reducing its 150-thousand dollar subsidy to the ranch by $50,000 in 2017, $50,000 in 2018, and $40,000 in 2019. That would leave the subsidy at just $10,000. Council will discuss the ranch's request at its next meeting May 24. The City of Vernon owns the heritage attraction.
