City of Vernon bylaws staff are keeping a watch on the newest concentration of homeless residents in the city.A number of people have been staying in the linear park on 25th Avenue since a new bylaw and enforcement took effect in Polson Park last month. Protective Services Manager Geoff Gaucher says the same rules apply in both parks. “25th Avenue is linear park. It is a park no different than Polson Park, so they can set up a tent and overnight shelter there. There are about six tents that are over-nighting,”Gaucher tells Kiss FM. Gaucher says the campers have to have their shelters down by 9 am, and he says there’s been good compliance. “During the day, were getting other persons coming and spending time there with their possessions during the day at the park.” Gaucher says they have had a few complaints. “25th Avenue is very visible visible, so we do we complaints about people with large piles of property or with their tents up.” Gaucher says his staff is doing its best to enforce the rules. He says only about 3 tents are being put up each night in Polson Park.
