RDNO To Move Forward On VSAR HQ Request

The Board of Directors with the RDNO is moving forward with a plan to help Vernon Search and Rescue find a new home. RDNO staff will be directed to establish a loan authorization service that would allow for raising money through borrowing. Board Chair Bob Fleming says a method for voter approval has yet to be decided. “I think there was sympathy from a number of participants that their individual councils should have a chance to have a look at the information and consider what is appropriate for voter assent.” Search and Rescue proposed an Alternative Approval Process, but no decision has been made on that. “The different directors from the various municipalities will probably have that information, take it to their councils, have a look at it, sort of collectively decide on what their sympathies are.” While councils could provide approval on behalf of their voters, the electoral areas would have to come up with some form of approval process. That could depend on what options staff come up with. “Based on land and improvements, which is how this would go, what each municipality would be responsible for, and which each electoral area. That would be laid out in information coming back from staff as well.” Fleming says staff will try to have everything ready for the next board meeting in May. Search and Rescue has estimated land and buildings costs would run around three and a half million dollars.
