SFGNO QUESTIONS ASKED ?

The Society For The Future Governance Of The North Okanagan Frequently Asked Questions (FROM E-Mail) Not yet on http://www.sfgno.org/

Q: How did the Society come about?
A: A group of North Okanagan residents, who are concerned about governance issues in the North Okanagan and associated communities, determined that an independent study of governance and administration issues should be undertaken. The Society was formed to raise money to undertake the study.

Q: Who will undertake the study?
A: An independent and reputable consultant will be hired to complete the study.
Q: Who are the founding members of the Society?
A: Pat Lett, Richard Hamilton, Jack Borden, Gary Huston and Eric Hornby.
Q: Why doesn’t the government undertake the study?
A: The sole purpose of the Society is to undertake a study that is independent of
local, sub-regional and regional government.
Q: Will the Society influence the outcome of the study?

A: No. The Society will not influence the outcome of the study nor will the Society, as a group, make a submission to the independent consultant. Individual Society members may make submissions to the consultant.
Q: How much will the study cost?

A: The Society has a budget of $100,000. We intend to sell 1,000 memberships at $100 each. The entire budget, with the exception of $5,000 budgeted for administration, will be spent on fees and expenses for the consultant.
Q: What communities and government structures make up the North Okanagan?
A: The North Okanagan Regional District (and areas B, C, D, E, F), Greater Vernon Services Commission, Electoral Areas Services Commission, Silver Star Governance Committee, The City of Vernon, District of Coldstream, Municipality of Spallumcheen, City of Enderby, Village of Lumby and the City of Armstrong.

Q: How many regional, sub-regional and locally elected representatives are there in the North Okanagan?
A: 45.
Q: What are the members of the Society hoping to accomplish?
A: To identify opportunities to improve the functionality of our communities, regional and sub-regional governments and to identify potential cost savings for all North Okanagan taxpayers.
