Conservative Membership Controversy

http://www.1075kiss.com/whatson/news.jsp
There's some controversy in the race to represent the Conservatives in the Okanagan Shuswap riding.Dean Skoreyko of Coldstream who is challenging rookie M-P Colin Mayes, says 85 of the people he signed to memberships, have been denied voting status. He tells KISS FM, "I'm extremely disappointed in that, through no fault of their own, these people signed up and through a technicality, they are going to be denied an opportunity to vote in this process."The party did not allow the new members because Skoreyko used a personal cheque as payment, which he found out later is not acceptable by the party. He doesn't specifically blame anyone but says had the rules been spelled out more clearly, he would have sent a certified cheque or used his credit card.About 1, 235 party members are eligible to vote.Nomination meetings will be held in Salmon Arm at the seniors centre (170 Fifth Ave South East) Wednesday and at the Schubert Centre in Vernon on Thursday, both from 4 to 9pm.Should Skoreyko win, he would be the 'candidate of record' and would represent the party once the next federal election is called, but Mayes would remain the M-P until that time.(Pete McIntyre Sept 5)
