A watchdog group is supporting a NO vote in the upcoming Coldstream referendum. Residents will be asked on November 18-th if they support borrowing up to 4 million dollars fornew fire halls. Andy Danyliu from the District Taxpayers Association says an argument can be made for a new facility in Coldstream, but not in Lavington. Danyliu says,'To spend $900 000, which will undoubtedly go over a million, to improve the working environment and boulster morale and maintain recruitment levels in my opinion is a luxury that I as ataxpayer cannot afford.' Danyliu would like to see the question split in two which mayor Gary Corner says was considered,'We did look at splitting the two into two seperate ones, but I think it was felt that Coldstream is one big community and these are two fire halls that the whole community needs. The two fire halls dosupport each other in larger fires.' The average homeowner will pay an extra 63 dollars in taxes for 25 years, if the vote passes.
