Budget process begins http://www.vernonmorningstar.com/
Vernonites will soon find out how hard the taxman is hitting them next year. The City of Vernon’s finance committee will meet Thursday to review a 2007 budget package developed by the finance department. “We will give them an overview of the document and hopefully we can get into a discussion about the content,” said Rob Mayne, finance manager. After that, the finance committee will send a recommendation to council Nov. 27 regarding the proposed budget. A public input meeting will be held at city hall Dec. 4. “Two weeks before that, we will have the budget available to the public for its perusal,” said Mayne. Council is anticipated to give three readings to the 2007 budget in mid-December, with final approval coming in early January. Part of the budget will include whether there is a municipal tax increase next year.
