It's still early in the process, but at this point, Vernon residents are facing a 2.8 percent
tax increase for next year. Councillor and Finance Committee chairman
Patrick Nicol says that may be the final number once discussions between council and staff are completed in the next few weeks. Nicol tells KISS FM, 'The number may not change but I would suspect some of the elements within the budget will be challenged to a greater degree than they have been (in past years).' Nicol says the hike would cover items like cost of living increases, new capital projects, and a new $600,000 pumper truck for the fire department. The 2006 tax increase in Vernon was 1.4 percent, or an extra $10 for the average homeowner.
