NORD To Discuss GVSC Future http://www.1075kiss.com/news/headlines/
A controversial plan by the North Okanagan Regional District is expected to generate some lively discussion at today's monthly board meeting. The regional board will debate a recommendation to remove the delegated authority from the Greater Vernon Services Commission and the Electoral Area Services commission. Under the new plan, those commissions would be able to make recommendations to the NORD board, but not final decisions.GVSC chairman and Coldstream mayor Gary Corner doesn't see it as an end of GVSC.He tells KISS FM, "I think it doesn't mean an awful lot to GVSC other than the structure will change somewhat. The delegation has always been a point to be argued anyways so I don't know whether this is exactly the right direction to go. We'll be making that decision today at the NORD meeting. Corner says the proposed change is expected to face many questions." I think there already is opposition to it, and I certainly need some questions answered before I can support it." NORD chairman Stan Field says the GVSC has been tried as a new idea over the last few years, but it hasn't worked. (Pete McIntyre)
