Police seek bad Santa

By Vernon Daily Courier Staff Wednesday, December 13, 2006 http://www.dailycourier.ca/article_794.php
This thief is definitely on the naughty list.Vernon RCMP said a man dressed in a Santa hat, jacket and beard smashed a display case in Jacques Jewelers Monday night and fled with about 40 rings.“The stolen rings were mostly wedding bands of white and yellow gold. Some had diamond accents,” said Vernon RCMP Cpl. Henry Proce.Police responded to the call at 3:30 p.m. Witnesses said the man entered the store, smashed a display case with a torque wrench and took the rings. He then ran from the store and jumped into a white, rusty Toyota mini-van waiting nearby. The man and an accomplice then fled southbound in the van.Police recovered the van within the hour. It had been stolen from the Staples parking lot about two hours before the jewelry store heist. “Due to his Santa suit, police have only limited descriptors of the suspect,” said Proce. He is described as about six-feet tall with a medium build and most likely caucasian. He was wearing dark pants, black shoes and black gloves.Anyone with information can call Crimestoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS or the Vernon detachment at 545-7171.
