City Council's Finance Committee has held more discussion on the city of Vernon's new budget. Committee chair Patrick Nicol says a 2.8 percent tax hike is being recommended for next year. Nicol says,'We want the staff to find 1%, in terms of savings, on the expense side and utilize a combination of savings and or surplus to fund some important projects that would have increased the tax to 6.8.'Nicol says the city has a surplus of close to 800-thousand dollars, to work with.(Pete McIntyre)
