CHBC-TV could be fined

Crown Council is seeking a fine of between 25 hundred and 4 thousand dollars against CHBC TV. The local tv station is charged with criminal contempt of court after airing a news report June 5th showing an undercover police officer involved in the on-going Ronda Black murder case. The piece was aired despite a publication ban identifying the undercover officer. A decision is expected Friday morning.

The Crown says it will proceed with criminal contempt charges against a reporter with CHBC television in Kelowna. It's alleged reporter Blaine Gaffney and his station aired video footage revealing the identity of an undercover cop involved in a Kelowna murder trial. In the trial, Ronda Black is accused of murdering her husband Keith in 1998. The trial is expected to take another two months to complete this year. (BN)
