Drivers of fuel efficient vehicles are expected to continue to get a break from City Hall. At Monday's meeting, council will be asked to extend the Eco-Pass program for an additional year to December 31, 2007. The Eco-Pass allows owners of hybrid or Smart Cars to park free at all downtown metered locations. The program is a reward for people who have made innovative and environmentally sound car buying decisions. According to city records, 115 Eco-Passes were issued in 2006. About 63% of those were issued for hybrid cars. City Transportation Manager, Ron Westlake, says to his knowledge Kelowna is the only city offering the Eco-Pass reward program.
