More than 200 workers at a Kelowna call centre will soon be out of a job. Sitel, which operates call centres around the world, says it's closing its Kelowna location. "We service a particular client from the Kelowna location and that client has changed its service strategy and is moving it to another service centre. As a result, we don't have a client for that facility," says Sitel spokesman Amit Shankardass. He says all 210 employees will be layed off but says there is always the possibility that another client can be found. "We are looking for another client for that location. I don't want to sugar coat this. It's a tough situation when you have one of these things happen and we're doing everything we can to mitigate it." Sitel moved into the former Western Star building in May 2005. It began handing out lay-off notices February 13 with closure set for May. It has 150 full-time and 60 part-time employees.
