The Vernon RCMP will have even more manpower on the streets by later this year. Inspector Steve McVarnock plans to add another 20 auxiliary police officers, who work as volunteersand go on patrols with regular officers. He says its not hard to find new recruits,'Its a gateway, really, to those that want to pursue a lawenforcement career. Its a great opportunity for them to experience the culture from an intimateperspective of working from the inside and seeing what goes on from a day to day basis. The detachment currently has 13 auxiliaries who have to commit to at least 160 hours of volunteerservice per year.
