Dinosaur Show Gets Funding
The Okanagan Science Centre in Vernon
has tapped into provincial funding for an upcoming exhibit. Okanagan Vernon M-L-A Tom Christensen has announced a $32,500 grant for the Centre's Dinosaurs Unearthed Exhibit. Christensen says the display is expected to increase interest and visitors to the Vernon area this summer and will likely be a large stimulant for the local economy. A similar exhibit ten years ago attracted over 25-thousand visitors. Dinosaurs Unearthed is scheduled to start May 1-st and continue until the end of October. $1 Million For Hospice
The campaign to expand the Vernon Hospice House has received a windfall from the province. $100,000 has been committed from BC Gaming. It lifts the Hospice Society's "Grow The Dream" fundraiser over the one million dollar mark, one-third of the goal. The plan is to expand the end of life-care facility from six to twelve beds. Society president Gladys Fraser says the goal is to have 2.5 million raised by July. Construction could begin in September with a completion date of April 2008.
