A major project at the Kelowna airport is expected to do big things for tourism in the Okanagan.
The City of Kelowna and BC government have announced plans to proceed with an 8 million dollar extension of the runway, from 75-hundred to nine thousand feet. Once finished in late 2008, it will allow non-stop flights from the U-K, Australia and Germany. Tourism officials say it should bring more international visitors to the valley's ski resorts, wineries, golf courses and waterfront developments. While the province (1.35 million) and Kelowna (5.3 million) have committed their share of the funding, its hoped the federal government will provide the final 1.35 million of the cost.
