Hamilton City Council is refusing to accept "no" as an answer from the federal government. It has voted to reconfirm its demand that the halfway house on York Boulevard be moved to another municipality. That flies in the face of a recent letter that was sent to the City of Hamilton by Canada's Public Safety Minister. Stockwell Day has said Ottawa is willing to move the Corrections Canada facility out of the downtown core, but not out of Hamilton's urban area. Some feel that local politicians are running a risk by sticking with their original position.
Ancaster Councillor Lloyd Ferguson warns that by continuing to fight, they risk the federal government calling off talks and leaving the halfway house where it is now, across the street from Jackson Square.
