A former senior administrator in Coldstream has pocketed more than $100,000. A Freedom of Information request by The Morning Star has revealed that Darwyn Kutney has received a total of $105,863 in severance. "It is a standard settlement through the municipal sector,"said Kutney when contacted. Kutney was Coldstream's director of operational services for 11 years but he was placed on administrative leave in early March. He was dismissed by council March 16. As part of his settlement, Kutney will receive 12 month's salary, pension and health benefits. At a gross monthly salary of $7,287 that amounts to $87,000 for a year. On top of that, there is vacation pay of $2,552 and unused sick leave pay of $16,311. Wendy Kay, chief administrative officer, said the settlement package was based on the terms of Kutney's contract. "It (settlement terms) is also part of labour law," she said.

At the time of his dismissal, Coldstream council indicated that it was heading in a new direction with the position and Kutney no longer met their needs. The duties are currently being done by a temporary employee. "I'm reworking the job description so I hope in a couple of weeks to have an advertisement out for recruitment,"said Kay. Kutney is now the new public works superintendent in Enderby
