The committee working on a temporary shelter in Vernon says it was a surprise when the tent city went up over the weekend at the Sigalet property just off Highway 97. Annette Sharkey says they're talking to the city and the RCMP to try and figure out what they can do. She says it's extremely challenging and they're working as hard and fast as they can to speed up the process to get the new shelter in operation.. Sharkey says the committee understands it is an issue for the business community, as well as Vernon's homeless. Mayor Wayne Lippert says he hasn't personally heard complaints from the business community, but was in meetings most of Monday.Lippert says it will be up to the owners of the property to take down the tent city. Sharkey says if anyone has any suggestions they'd welcome them.
