A new affordable housing complex is being backed by Vernon council, but one councillor feels itcould become the butt of many jokes. The city has given preliminary approval for a 40 unit development on land currently used as a bufferfor the adjacent Water Reclamation Centre. Councillor Pat Cochrane doesn't think the site is right for housing. 'Its clear from the design of the housing that there will be balconies and windows that will be directlylooking over the treatment plant. My fear is that at some point in the future that is going to be thrownup as kind of a standing joke in the city of Vernon that, look what they did.' However, Councillor Juliette Cunningham doesn't think the site will be an issue, given the sewagefacility is 'state of the art'. The Vernon Native Housing Society is looking for a long term lease from the city, to use the land forsubsidized housing.
