New World extends Gateway bid

BURNABY, B.C. – Awaiting regulatory approvals, New World Gaming Partners Ltd. of Australia has extended its $816-million takeover offer for Gateway Casinos Income Fund (TSX: GCI.UN) again – until Sept. 26. New World Gaming, a joint venture of Australia's Macquarie Bank and Publishing and Broadcasting Ltd., has offered $25.26 a unit and had previously extended the bid in June, to July 25. "Based on discussions with the British Columbia and Alberta gaming regulators, and subject to any unforeseen circumstances, New World Gaming currently expects that the gaming regulators should be in a position to provide the necessary regulatory approvals on or before Sept. 24," New World said Wednesday.

Based in Burnaby, Gateway operates the Burnaby Casino and Cascades Langley Casino and Hotel in Greater Vancouver, the Palace Casino in Edmonton and the Lake City Casinos in Kamloops, Kelowna, Penticton and Vernon, B.C. Wednesday morning on the Toronto stock market, Gateway shares were down 11 cents at $25.22.
