Both Sides Considering Charges in Peace Rally
Police say it could be several weeks before there's a decision on charges against two organizers of a peace rally in Vernon.Mounties are recommending the Crown proceed with obstruction of justice and resisting arrest charges against Neil Magnuson and Jack Elliman who were arrested Monday after Elliman refused to move his car from a fire lane.Magnuson --who was pepper sprayed and held on the ground, feels the officers---used excessive force.'My lawyer is about to see the video of what happened there and we'll be going after these people.I'm sure we will though I will have to confirm that with my lawyer in Vancouver but that was a brutal assault Police are standing by the actions of their officers.City of Vernon bylaw enforcement manager Clint Kanester says his officer involved did nothing incorrect, but could have handled the situation better. World Curling Organizers Await NORD Cash
The North Okanagan Regional District will consider getting on board a major sporting event in Vernon next year. Toby Oswald Felker from the World Women's Curling Championships has asked NORD for60-thousand dollars, plus a similar amount of 'services in kind'. 'Well it may not get to 120 (thousand)- it is more than 60 though. We're looking for cash and we're looking for services in kind.' Those services would include free use of the rec centre auditorium for a banquet. The organizer's request will be sent to NORD members for input, and considered in budget discussions. For the investment, NORD would gets its logo on the ice for the 9 day event, which will be televised on TSN and CBC.

1.4 Million to Tear Down Townhouses
A storage area for the expansion at Vernon Jubilee Hospital didn't come cheap for provincial taxpayers. Officials with Interior Health say 1.4 million dollars was paid for the townhouse complex, on32-nd Street, across from the hospital. The building will be demolished next spring to allow for storage and construction trailers for the 81million dollar expansion. Residents of the complex have been given until February to leave, and will get some financial assistance from the health agency.

18-Grand for North Okanagan Environmental Studies
The provincial government is providing18-thousand dollars for environmental studies in Coldstream and Vernon. MLA Tom Christensen says the city of Vernon will get ten thousand dollars to develop an Asset Management Plan. It will document the age and condition of the city's infrastructure to help determine the true cost of services levels, set appropriate fees and determine reserve contributions. NORD will get the other 8-thousand to study the protection and risks to the groundwater source in Coldstream.
