Service review seating expands for solution

By Morning Star Staff Aug 19 2007 http://www.vernonmorningstar.com/

Outstanding service review issues have prompted local politicians to band together in hopes of coming to a resolution. All 16 Greater Vernon politicians will hold a joint meeting with the intention of resolving the issues of Greater Vernon Service Review meetings. “It’s time to set aside the formal paperwork and exchange of letters so that we can focus on what’s best for the future of Greater Vernon,” said Gary Corner, chair of the Greater Vernon Services Committee. “The time has come to work through these issues and find solutions.” GVS review meetings have been underway over the past few months to clarify concerns each of the participants have with water, parks and recreation and tourism and economic development. While the meetings have been useful, local politicians say they have not produced the desired outcomes. In an effort to advance the outstanding issues and expedite the process, the Greater Vernon Governance Service Review Committee has agreed to convene a facilitated meeting with all politicians at the City of Vernon, District of Coldstream and Areas B and C directors Cliff Kanester and Stan Field. Meetings were formerly held with only one representative each from Vernon and Coldstream and Field and Kanester.

Due to the complex nature of the issues being dealt with a professional facilitator will also be assisting. “I am encouraged that the Service Review Committee unanimously supports this new approach,” said Jerry Oglow, North Okanagan Regional District board chairman, “and with the assistance of a facilitator am cautiously optimistic that solutions will be found.” The decision to hold a joint, facilitated meeting comes after Coldstream politicians requested at their Monday meeting that all councillors and area representatives be a part of all reviews to do with GVS, along with a facilitator.

Don Quixote Note: Will this be another visit to the darkside as the councils and area reps gather to plan our future in another in-camera meeting ?
