Hospice Exceeds Goal

by David Fowler - Sept. 03, 2007 CASTANET

Holding Hands For Hospice, the $3 million dollar fundraising campaign in support of a 24 bed stand alone Hospice House in Kelowna, finished Saturday night half a million dollars over their goal. Organizers call it the most successful fundraising event to-date in Kelowna.
Walter Gray, Honorary Chair, says “Our new 24 bed stand alone hospice will bring so much peace and comfort not only to those who are going through their end of life but to their families as well.” The hospice will be built on the historic Bennett family property on Ethel at Springfield. The campaign was a unique fundraising partnership between the Kelowna General Hospital Foundation, the BC Cancer Foundation and the Central Okanagan Hospice Association. Dr. Terry Flannigan, chair of the Casino Royale Heart of Gold gala, says announcements of $50,000 in support from RBC Dominion Securities (Kelowna branch) and RBC Royal Bank, as well as an anonymous donation of $50,000 were made to the black tie event at the Grand this weekend.
