Coldstream's mayor doesn't think the upcoming referendum in his community is a waste of time, and money.Residents will go to the polls, likely in the new year, to determine if farm land on Aberdeen Road, should be used for sports fields. However, the final decision on the land use will be up to the Agricultural Land Commission which indicated last year it would not the support the application.Mayor Gary Corner says the situation could change. 'The report from the Land Reserve said it didn't seem like somthing they would support, but you never know with those sort of things until you actually apply for them. And I think by having a referendum, if the majority of the community is in favour of it, that may help with the decision of the ALR.'he Coldstream Ratepayers Association suggests the District, or Greater Vernon Services, should check with the ALC before the vote, to ensure taxpayer money isn't wasted.
