Ex-mayor back in court on fraud charges

Edmonton Sun Nov 15

VERNON, B.C. -- A man who had to resign as the mayor of Vernon, B.C., over fraud charges was back in court yesterday on new charges of fraud. Sean Harvey is charged with five counts of fraud and one of forgery over dealings with a former business partner. Vernon dentist Chris Laidlaw alleges he was defrauded of $50,000 over a two-year period ending in 2005. The charges were put over until Dec. 5 and Harvey refused to talk to the media after his appearance as he left the court. Harvey completed a one-year conditional sentence in September after resigning as mayor and admitting to breach of trust in 2006 by racking up personal charges on a city credit card.
