The future of water service dominated a closed door meeting of Greater Vernon's political leaders. The elected reps from Vernon, Coldstream and Areas B and C, met with a mediator for ten hours over two days to try and resolve issues between urban and rural reps.NORD chairman Jerry Oglow says the meeting was productive but no solution was reached. He tells KISS FM, another meeting will be held in January to review the cost and technical implications of changes to the water system. "One of the key elements that's under discussion is the supply and distribution (of water). There's a proposal to change the distribution to each of the local jurisdictions as their responsibility, rather than doing it communally".
Oglow says there wasn't enough time for discussion on parks and recreation, and economic development, but those issues will be discussed in January. The NORD chair credits the 14 council members and two electoral reps for their participation. "They came to the meeting to be frank, open and transparent and all of that was done. There was a lot of emotion expressed. People had some strong views on certain issues (but) they did it constructively in my view." Oglow says the mediator will be invited back for the January gathering.
