In this ad from City Hall in the Morning Star on Jan 20 the City invites you to direct all questions that need answering to:

  • Vernon Public art Gallery - Rene Lapierre, exc. Director (545-3173)
  • Okanagan Regional Library - Maureen Kuch, Branch Manager (542-6710 ext. 1301)

You will have one other opportunity to ask questions as KISS FM will be presenting a special open line show on the complex Wednesday January 23 from 11am to 12pm. Questions from the public will be welcome. The guests will include Mayor Wayne Lippert, Administrator Leon Gous, councillor Barry Beardsell, and representatives from the Vernon Art Gallery, the Vernon Library and the RCMP. The Vernon Taxpayers Associaiton will also be given a chance to comment. KISS FM News Director Pete McIntyre will host the program.

Don Quixote Questions to Media Officer: (Please feel free to ask any of them if you get through on what is likely to be a busy line on Monday)
  • Who authorized the content of the Say YES 2 page coloured ads and the brochure ?
  • Who authorized the mailing of the brochure with the Utility bill?
  • Who approved the phrase "Maximum Annual Tax" and indicates that the tax on a $400,000 property will be $55.86. (Actual Capital cost will be $85.78) ??
  • The Capital Cost of the building before any overruns is projected at $32,435,708 and we are having a referendum to authorize borrowing $30,000,000. Where is the missing $2,435,708 coming from?
  • Has there been any discussions to change the advertisement and present a full range of possible costs and a less biased presentation and if not, why not ?
  • The City's figures are based on a 4.90% rate and a 25 year term. Indeed in the ad in the Yes Vote section it states ' The Project will be financed over a 25 year period. Does this mean that the City will not borrow on a 20 year term which will make the annual tax to taxpayer increase ? (Why does the City not show this in their ads as a possibility and give a range of taxes to properties ? )

Why would someone at the City start answering questions now? All they have attempted to do up until now is deceive us. Please let us know if you get a credible answer to any of your questions-this would be a first on the part of the City.Politicians can be excused for lack of ability in some cases, but staff?
