More Drama over Library Civic Complex Proposal

Starlee Speers Astral Media Radio, Vernon

The city of Vernon has had to cancel four scheduled open houses for the proposed civic complex. Mayor Wayne Lippert says, the Village Green Mall pulled their venue because it doesn't want to be involved in the political controversy. "From what I understand, they received pressure from the Vernon Taxpayers Association and councillor Beardsell, because councillor Beardsell was demanding equal time." The four cancelled open houses will not be made up at a different venue but the three scheduled for City Hall, the Schubert centre, and the Rec complex will still be held.

Councillor Barry Beardsell says, he had nothing to do with the mall canceling the city's information sessions. He says, he phoned as a citizen, not a councillor to inquire about the mall's policy on the matter."The mall doesn't like to get involved in controversy, the mall made that decision before I even phoned and talked to the person." Beardsell says, he believes the Mayor wants to place blame on him every chance he gets because he's opposed to the complex.
