Village Green Mall Feels Pressure of 'Complex' Issue

By Pete McIntyre107.5 KISS FM
Two open houses on Vernon's proposed civic complex have been canceled by the Village Green Mall.Mall management scrapped the city-led events set for Friday and Saturday for not wanting to get into a political debate after the Vernon Taxpayers Association asked for equal representation.Mayor Wayne Lippert understands the mall's position, but says the end result will be less information for the public."By the Taxpayer's (Association) calling them up and from what I understand Barry Beardsell himself calling and putting alot of pressure on. They've proven a disservice to the citizens of Vernon by doing this."

Councillor Beardsell is upset the mayor is suggesting he teamed-up with the taxpayers group to pressure the mall."Totally upset. I mean, he is taking such liberties with the truth that he's bringing disrepute to the position of mayor of this town."Despite the cancellations, three other open houses will still go ahead including one at City Hall Wednesday.
