Funding, Beds Not What VJH Needs

By Jessica Samuels 107.5 KISS FM

A new drop in health care centre officially opened on Friday and according to BC's Health Minister its just what the doctor ordered. George Abbott was on hand for the opening of the facility which will cater to homeless and marginalized people. Abbott says primary care centre such as these are the answer to Vernon's health care woes."There is a supposition that the answer to the current and growing aging demographic in our society is to deal with it with more acute care beds. That is not my philosophy. its not the philosophy of government." Concerns VJH is underfunded and has a shortage of beds in comparison to other regional hospitals was raised by local doctors in a 25 page report to city council last month.Abbott says he does not agree with the idea that more beds will solve the problem.
