Race For City Council Begins

107.5 KISS FM By Pete McIntyre

The race for seats on Vernon city council this fall has already begun. Dean Skoreyko is the first person to announce he'll be seeking one of the councillor positions in the November elections. The 40 year old businessman tells KISS FM why he's throwing his hat in the ring so early."I'd just like to see if we can stir up a little bit of alternative debate on the issues, and get some different perspective on it. That's the main reason to get out, to try and get some of these discussions up and running. He has some criticism for the current council. "I believe that this council has lost touch with the citizens of Vernon. There seems to be a strong sense that the average voter is pretty unhappy with the decisions coming from city hall and would like someone to represent them who would bring more common sense, and an open democratic approach to council."Skoreyko finished third out of four candidates who ran for mayor of Vernon in 2005.He's also run for the federal Conservative nomination in the past.

Municipal elections aren't till November, but the first candidate has already stepped forward in Vernon. Dean Skoreyko finished third for Mayor three years ago, but says he wants a shot a council this time. Skoreyko says he has time for council, but not the top job.He says he's been watching local politics closely and believes council has lost touch with the citizens of Vernon. Skoreyko says the biggest issues are water, transportation and the failed civic complex.

Mr Skoreyko is out of touch with the citizens of Vernon

He has shown no interest in or commitment to anything the taxpayers have been engaged in
in recent times!

He seems to pop up only when there is an election

Mr Skoreyko is a professional politician and Vernon does not need any more of those politicians

I think he is incorrect-the present council never was in touch with the citizens. This council was a negative reaction to the old council and the majority have done nothing for Vernon. Next time lets get a citizen of Vernon in the mayors seat and one that can be understood.
