Vernon's 25 year plan for transportation has the backing of the city's largest business organization. After looking over the document and surveying members, the Greater Vernon Chamber of Commerce says it supports the plan and also backs efforts to protect land for the Western Bypass. President Jay Hack says the plan addresses the short, mid and long term needs of the growing community, and encourages alternative modes of transportation. Hack points out the city is only talking about protecting land for a bypass at this point, which he says will allow the city to keep that option open for the future. He says there's no plans for business development zoning along the corridor which should alleviate concerns about suburban sprawl, and will also protect existing businesses in the downtown core. The city will hear public input on the plan Tuesday at 5:30 at the Vernon Rec Centre Auditorium.
