The Okanagan's governance committee has put the finishing touches on its report to the province. The results will be presented to the Minister of Community Services by the three regional district chairs, next Tuesday. Task force vice chair Jerry Oglow says there's one main recommendation which was supported by all members of the committee. "We're proposing to the minister that the two options of either a single regional district or a valley governance that is made up of a number of authorities, be given futher deailed review, particularly financial review." Under the second option, the three current regional districts would remain. Oglow says there wasn't clear enough consensus from municipal politicians to go with just one option. Vernon mayor Wayne Lippert says he supports the report despite earlier concerns it wouldn't be representative of the valley's large cities. "There were some recommendations made for revisions to the report and there was a lot of good discussion so I feel pretty comfortable with it." Lippert will meet with the mayors of Kelowna, Penticton and Westside Thursday to ensure they also support the report.
