Governance study gets messy

There's concerns the Okanagan's biggest cities aren't getting enough say into the valley governance study. Vernon mayor Wayne Lippert wants to work with the mayors of Kelowna, Penticton and Westside, to submit a separate report to the B-C minister in charge. "We want her (Ida Chong, Community Service minister) to know, we represent 80 percent of the population and that 80 percent doesn't doesn't necessarily agree with where the task force is going." Lippert says Vernon council is concerned the process is being driven by the regional districts, and the results won't reflect the majority of valley residents. Governance committee vice chair Jerry Oglow says its too early for Vernon to presume what their final report will look like. He also disputes the notion the report will be biased in favour of the regional districts.
