B.C. CREATIVE ARTISTS AND DESIGNERS RECOGNIZED

VANCOUVER – Six talented British Columbians were named today as recipients of the 2008 BC Creative Achievement Awards by Premier Gordon Campbell and Keith Mitchell, chair of the British Columbia Achievement Foundation.

2008 BC Creative Achievement Award of Distinction John Fluevog, Vancouver

The recipients of the 2008 BC Creative Achievement Awards are:
Omer Arbel, Vancouver – industrial design
Yael Krawkowski, Vernon – jewelry
Sarah Lawless, Kaslo – pottery
Kinichi Shigeno, Richmond – ceramics
Angelika Werth, Nelson – costume and fashion design

Yael Krakowski, Vernon Jewelry Design
A 1988 graduate of the Bezalel Academy of Art and Design in Jerusalem, Yael Krakowski’s understanding of colour and texture is demonstrated in the depth and sophistication of her jewelry pieces. Using a wide range of materials, Krakowski is constantly experimenting to achieve innovative and contemporary designs that create a highly visual and tactile dialogue. Her work has been shown worldwide, is included in the permanent collection of the Cooper Hewitt Museum in New York, and has been published in ‘500 Necklaces’ by Lark Books.

The recipients of the 2008 BC Creative Achievement Awards will be recognized at a ceremony held May 15, 2008 at The Studios at Shaw Tower in Vancouver. Each recipient will receive $5,000 and be granted the use of the British Columbia Creative Achievement Award seal to signify their creative excellence. The 2008 Traveling Showcase will be on display during the ceremony and will subsequently visit communities around the province.
