Smokey may sing at Vernon festival

107.5 KISSFM Pete McIntyre

Up to 15,000 people are expected to attend a new musical event in Vernon this summer. The Rare Earth Jazz and Blues Festival is being organized by local residents Kath Raeber and Charles Lamarr. Raeber says it will be held at Kin Race Track Park August 30-th and 31-st, the same weekend as the Interior Provincial Exhibition in Armstrong. She tells KISS FM, "That's going to be fantastic for us. The people who enjoy the IPE will enjoy the Jazz and Blues so actually it will work in our favour."Lamarr, who is a former booking agent, is looking to bring in up to 20 acts, including his friend Smokey Robinson and the Neville Brothers. Greater Vernon Services has given the organizers permission to use the park rent free.
