VJH petition launched

107.5 KISSFM Pete McIntyre

A local group is spearheading a petition to get more funding for Vernon Jubilee Hospital. In the wake of a forum on the facility this week, the Vernon Taxpayers Association will be setting up locations next week where people can sign the document. Spokesman Tony Stamboulieh says the petition will be presented to MLA Tom Christensen and perhaps others later this spring. He tells KISS FM, "There will be a formal presentation. We shall decide who we make the presentation to. That has not been decided yet. We're going to working on this (gathering names) for something like six weeks." Stamboulieh says because VJH is a regional hospital , the plan is to have the petitions in not just Vernon but through-out the North Okanagan and Shuswap. The petition calls for more acute care beds and staffing resources, something doctors have been seeking for months. Okanagan Vernon MLA Tom Christensen doesn't think VJH is under-funded, saying considerable money has been invested in the facility.
