For the second time in two months, a tentative agreement has been reached after talks between Lake City Casino and its 500 workers. The tentative three year deal was announced Thursday between the company and the B.C. Government and Service Employees' Union. On March 4, the two sides announced a tentative agreement, only to have workers reject the contract by a three-to-one margin. Both sides returned to the bargaining table Tuesday, just days after workers voted 86 per cent in favour of job action to back contract demands. "With the help of the Labour Relations Board Mediator,we have convinced the employer to make significant improvements in the wage structure, particularly for the lowest paid workers," says union negotiator, Mike Orders. He says all members will receive higher wages, more flexibility in shift scheduling, paid training and improved benefits. Night shift workers will receive a shift premium. Orders says union negotiators are unanimously recommending acceptance. Workers at the four interior Lake City Casino outlets in Kelowna, Penticton, Vernon and Kamloops will vote on the agreement the week of May 26.
