NDP says Campbell Government Spectators to Crisis at VJH

Starlee Speers Astral Media Radio (Vernon)

The NDP Opposition Leader says Vernon Jubilee hospital has set a new record for the most code purples recorded so far in a year. Carole James says she stopped in Vernon Wednesday to carry the message to government that the hospital is in crisis. "People will remember this government promised health care where and when they need it. Well, that's out the window. There is no health care where you need it in this community and people deserve better than they're getting." NDP Health Critic Adrian Dix accompanied James in meeting with local doctors, patients and residents to discuss the issue. James says, since January 1st there have been over 50 code purples called at the hospital. Tony Stamboulieh of the Vernon Taxpayers Association says, they haven't heard anything from the Health Minister since the petition was presented nearly two weeks ago. 'So that tells you very clearly about how he feels about the situation. But we shall have something to say at the next Provincial election...in a very practical way." Nearly 18-thousand signatures were collected on the petition calling for more funding for Vernon Jubilee Hospital.
