An industrial spill has been reported at the Tolko Plant in Vernon. Details are few, but RCMP spokesperson Gord Molendyk there’s a possibility the trailer court north east of the plant may have to be evacuated. “I’m also told that a couple of mill workers may have been injured, but that‘s not confirmed. EMS is on scene,” says Molendyk. More details will be released as they become available.
Update: (11:49 a.m.) A portion of Highway 97 had been closed due to the spill, but has been reopened. However, Larkin Crossroads is closed. Gord Molendyk says several employees have been taken to the hospital as a preventative measure. He says while he still can't confirm any injuries, the spill is likely Carbon Dioxide.

Update: 12:14 pm It appears it was carbon monoxide which caused dozens of North Okanagan office workers to be evacuated from their office Wednesday morning. About 30 employees at the Vernon Tolko plant were evacuated after some of them started to experience lightheadedness. Those with potential exposure were taken to hospital for further evaluation. As a precautionary measure, the sawmill and planer operations were shut down and workers were asked to leave the premises. “Our priority is with the wellness of our employees,” said Vyvian Burton, human resources manager. The source of the exposure is under investigation.
