A new chief administrator will be taking the helm of the Regional District of Okanagan Similkameen this summer. After a several months-long search, the RDOS has hired Bill Newell, the current manager of capital projects for the Fort McMurray Regional Airport Commission, to take the top position in the government organization. He will be replacing former chief administrator Jason Johnson, who left in March for the new district of Westbank. The regional district used a head hunting firm to help recruit candidates for the position. RDOS chair Dan Ashton said more than 70 applications for the position were received.
During the recruitment period, the RDOS has retained an interim CAO, Wayne Baldwin who will remain with the RDOS until mid-July. Once Newell begins his position, Ashton said he will lead the recruitment for other senior staff, such as the financial manager for the regional district, a position also lost to the new Westbank municipality.
