Cops seek 12 following drug operation

Castanet July 9
Vernon RCMP have issued warrants for a dozen people following the latest undercover drug operation. The four-day operation took place in early June in downtown Vernon and Enderby. "The operation identified 19 people involved in the drug trade who sold drugs to undercover officers. Several suspects have already been arrested," says RCMP spokesman Gord Molendyk. "Warrants have now been issued for 12 more. RCMP are in the process of arresting these individuals." Molendyk says the majority of drugs seized during the operation were cocaine, ecstasy and some heroin. He says the drug operation took place in conjunction with a two-day sex trade undercover operation. "Four females and six males were arrested. Both of these undercover operations are also part of the Vernon/North Okanagan detachments' strategic priorities for policing the detachment area." Police have conducted three operations, specifically targeting both the drug and sex trade and Molendyk says these, along with other seasonal initiatives currently underway, should go a long way to dealing with criminal activities in the downtown core.
