Local Councillor to go to UBCM ?

An articulate spokesman who can understand these resolutions and who can intellectually persuade the government must be drafted to go to UBCM.
Hopefully the City of Vernon will elicit the written support of the Local Chamber of Commerce and their related counterparts in other cities. The written and public support of the DVA for the first time would also be helpful in making the Province wake up and smell the roses.
  • If Vernon council has it's way, the BC government will conduct a Property Tax Review. Councillor Barry Beardsell says, a review is needed because homeowners are paying more and more to the government each year, and the community hasn't seen a increase in the money returned from the Province. Beardsell says, the system should be changed so a percentage of the property transfer tax goes back into the area is was collected from. Council approved sending the motion to the Union of BC municipalities for consideration.
  • Last years Hospital funding resolution will also be reintroduced and will have to make it past the Robert Hobson's credentials committee where it was NOT endorsed for debate on the floor last year: B154 HOSPITAL CAPITAL COST FINANCING : THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Provincial Government assume 100% responsibility of capital hospital expenditures for all municipalities in British Columbia and eliminate the hospital property tax imposed on taxpayers outside the Greater Vancouver Regional District area.

Barry Beardsell is the only councillor with the intellectual capability to assess the big picture and deal effectively with the smallest detail on behalf of his constituents

Barry should be drafted to represent our community at the UBCM

That is a no-brainer
There is no one else on this unfortunate council that can do the job apart from Barry Beardsell
