Safer bus stop on board for Tronson

Vernon Coun. Pat Cochrane, acting on a complaint from a resident about a dangerous bus stop, received an immediate reply to his query at last week’s Committee of the Whole meeting. “I talked to a citizen who lives adjacent to a bus stop at Bella Vista Road and Tronson Road who expressed some concerns with that particular location,” began Cochrane. “The citizen is concerned about it, especially in winter conditions where the road steepens near Tronson with people speeding down towards the road. “This person is wondering if the bus stop can be moved to a place that’s not so steep or where there’s better sight lines.” As chief administrative officer Leon Gous started suggesting that the city have talks with B.C. Transit about a possible re-location of the bus stop, Lorne Holowachuk, the city’s senior transportation engineer, stepped up to the microphone. “We have reviewed that sight and we are planning to move the stop,” said Holowachuk. “It will move from its current location to the eastern leg of Tronson Road, where there is more width for a stop. “It’s one of several bus stops being altered.”

As Coun. Cochrane smiled in response to his query, Coun. Barry Beardsell couldn’t help but notice the quick reply. “Now that your question has been answered so fast, I wonder if I might get an answer to my complaint about the bus stop on 32nd Avenue, the one right at 27th Street,” said Beardsell. Holowachuk said he hadn’t received any complaints about that particular stop. “You’re getting one right now, from me,” laughed Beardsell. The stop will be reviewed by city officials.
